JAN KOSSAKOWSKI (1900-1979)
He was born to a Polish family in landed gentry living in Wojtkuszki, Lithuania. His father, count Stanislaw Kazimierz Kossakowski, was in the meantime one of the first artists - photographers both in Lithuania and Poland, as well as the co-founder of the "Zacheta" National Gallery.
Mobilized by the army in 1939, and after that, during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, he was a director of a surgical unit, bringing help to wounded soldiers and partisants. After the war he was appointed the national consultant in pediatric surgery for all Poland. Endowed with artistic skills, Jan Kossakowski wrote poetry, sculpted and painted. His works were exhibited in Warsaw, Torino, Edinburgh, Rome, Tokyo and Cracow, where they were enthusiastically attracted by serious art collectors.
